Urine Drug Screen (Point of Care)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for ordering a Point of Care Urine Drug Screen Test for patients using the Athena EMR system. Follow the steps below to ensure the correct test is ordered.
Ordering Urine Drug Screen (POC) within the Session Note
1.) In the Session Note, under Progress Note click on (+) Diagnoses & Orders in the Assessment & Plan to initiate the order.
2.) Type "Urine" and then select "drug screen,urine" that is under the "Point of Care Tests" category.
A.) After selecting the Urine Drug Screen (POC), now you will have to add the diagnosis.
3.) Click on the "Urine Drug Screen" to expand.
a.) Providers that are collecting the samples and have received the results, will document results in the Urine Drug Screen and select "Discussed with patient".
b.) Once the results have been documented by the provider, the provider will scroll down to document the "Specimen Collection".
c.) Provider will now sign the order
Note: If your office has a MA, and the provider would like the MA to collect the specimen then the provider will not expand the order and just sign the order. The order will then route to the department staff bucket, which the MA will access the Urine Drug Screen and document the r specimen collection.
Medical Assistant Specimen Documentation
1.) The MA will click on the department staff inbox and select "Lab/imaging" to retrieve the patient's Drug screen, urine order.
2.) The MA will select the hyperlink document ID number to document specimen
3.) The MA will click on Document Specimen for documentation
4.) The MA will select "view actions" then select "order Filled" then Save.
Note: After MA select Save, the MA can click anywhere outside of the order to leave the order.
Provider Result Documentation
1.) Once the results come in, the MA will find the patient's order by clicking the Department Staff bucket then clicking on Lab/Imaging
2.) The MA will route the document document to the provider's inbox from the Department Staff bucket
3.) The Provider will select the order in their Lab/Imaging bucket and document the results
3.) The Provider will click on View Actions and then click on "Data entry Completed".
If findings are inconclusive, please route the sample to lab and sign orders. Below are additional steps for inconclusive Urine Drug Screen findings.
1.) Update the order to a "Send Out" order and select the lab that you would like to send the Urine Drug Scree sample.
2.) Select the appropriate Lab code
2.) Make sure that the "specimen collection" is marked as "In-Office"
3.) Click on "Sign orders" to send out Urine Drug Screen lab.
4.) Once the order is signed, click on "View More" then click on "View Document" for additional steps.

b.) View Document
5.) Once you have the the document open, click on "view actions" , "submit by athenaFax" then "save"
Order is now Send Out to Lab.
