Screening Workflow in Epion and Athena

Patient workflow for completing screenings:  
  1. 1. Patients will receive screenings in the Epion Previsit automated at the following cadence: 


PHQ-9 

Every 2 weeks

GAD-7 

Every 2 weeks

Absenteeism/Presenteeism Questionnaire 

Every Visit 

C-SSRS 

Yearly 

Tobacco Screening 

Yearly 

Alcohol and Drug Screening 

Yearly 


 

  1. 2. If the provider decides to send screenings built under the Send Patient Forms section of Epion (MDQ, ASRS forms, PHQ-9/GAD-7 outside of the above screening cadence), the patient will receive an additional text prompt to fill out the screening: 


Provider workflow: Sending Epion screenings outside of the automated cadence (Practice Assts also have access to send forms and screenings): 

 

  1. 4. From the patient’s check-in or Exam screen, select the Epion extension on the top right of your screen. For further information on installing and using the Epion extension, Click Here. 



  1. 5. You will select from either the “Forms” dropdown or the “Screeners” dropdown 

  2. a. Forms include any custom-requested screenings such as the MDQ and ASRS 

  3. b. Screeners include screenings currently embedded in Epion (PHQ-9, GAD-7, AUDIT-C, etc) 




  6. Screeners the patients phone number will automatically populate.
  7. Select “Send Patient Forms” to send to the patient 

Provider workflow: Viewing Screening Responses in Athena 

                                                                                                          


PHQ-9, GAD-7 will automatically populate results to the Screening section in the exam: 

Absenteeism/Presenteeism Questionnaire, Tobacco Screening, and Alcohol and Drug Screening will populate to the Social History section of the chart. 

  1. 1.The reconciliation of clinical data must be completed for any Epion data to file to the athena chart, including the above screening questions 

  1. 2. Select the chart reconciliation from the History tab. 

  1. 3. Review the patient’s Epion entries. 

  1. 4. Select Update Chart. Confirm the reconciliation. 



To view screening questions after reconciliation, select the History tab > Social History  
  1. 1. Home and Environment includes the Absenteeism Presenteeism Questionnaire 



  1. 2. Substance Use includes the Drug and Tobacco Screening Questions 



  1. 3. C-SSRS will be under Encounter Document > Health History Questionnaire  

      



4. You will now access the MDQ  in the Admin section of the chart (screenshot below). The PHQ-9, GAD-7, and C-SSRS will continue to be found under the exam and Encounter Document section. With this change, you will be able to send these ad hoc screeners during or after the visit.
