Telehealth Visits Multiparticipant

You can access a new workflow for virtual patient care. Schedule athenaTelehealth appointments to provide video conference calls for your patients through a secure link to a virtual patient room. Multiple practice users can enter and exit the virtual patient room throughout the encounter.

Important: Leaving the call does not end the session for the patient.

In athenaOne

After you start the encounter by clicking Go to Exam, the Start Online Visit button appears; click this button to open a video player window. If you leave the session because of a technical difficulty or an accidental click, you can rejoin the session by clicking the Start Online Visit button at the top of the encounter. The patient can reenter the session using the same original link.

Click Join call to enter the virtual patient room and please confirm the identity of the patient at this time.

Note: When you click Start Online Visit, you have a moment to check and preview your audio and video settings.

During an athenaTelehealth session, you can interact with athenaTelehealth as follows:

  • Expand the window and move it anywhere on the screen.
  • Resize the video player window.
  • Test or change your audio and video settings before and during the session.
  • Click Leave Call to leave the athenaTelehealth session.
Note: You can be in only one session at a time.
  • Rejoin the athenaTelehealth session by clicking the Start Online Visit button again.
Important: The video window displays the names of all attendees. Patients enter their own name, but their identity is not verified. Please ensure you are speaking with the correct person as you would for an on-site visit.
  • Include up to four users in the same virtual patient room; this number includes both practice users and patients.
  • View the patient's Online or Not Online status.

Note: You can see the patient status in the appointment banner. This status indicates that the patient is online and successfully dialed into the patient room via the URL sent to their preferred contact method. You can also see the patient status in the clinician schedule, the encounter briefing, the patient location in intake, and in the encounter stamp during the exam.

  • View the same encounter stage status as you would during an in-person visit.

Note: You can see whether your patient is with staff in the same manner as usual.
