Restrict Visibility of Confidential Data in Encounter and Chart

Restrict Visibility of Confidential Data in Encounter and Chart

During the Exam stage of the encounter, you can now mark the note field in the HPI, ROS, and AP sections as confidential so that it is hidden from patients and their family members or caretakers, you can now select to mark it locked from external care sites via CommonWell anCarequality (Patient Record Sharing) and select Health Information  Exchanges (HIEs).





Notes that are marked as confidential are not visible to patients and family members or caretakers who have access to their health information.


When a note field has not been marked as confidential, a  icon displays with the words "Visible to everyone."


When a note field is marked as confidential (locked), a  icon displays with the words "Not visible to patient and family."


To mark information as confidential (lock)

1.) Next to a field that can be marked as confidential, click .


2.) Select a reason for marking the information confidential. If you select Other, you must enter a reason in the text field. Now you can also click to lock information from Health Data Exchanges.
3.) Click Lock Item




To unlock information (no longer mark it as confidential) 



1.) Click next to a field to unlock it

2.) Select a reason for unlocking the information. If you select Other, you must enter the reason in the Note field. You can also enter a note without selecting a reason.

3.)  Click Unlock Item

The icon changes to  and the field is visible to everyone. 

In the A/P section, you can also lock the diagnosis and the diagnosis notes 



If you lock the diagnosis it will automatically lock the note, However, if you only lock the diagnosis note
it will not lock the diagnosis .
